This year has already been big for TSKF Tasmania.

UTAS Clubs and Societies Day

Several karateka promoted the club at the annual University of Tasmania Clubs and Societies Day in February. It was a fantastic day with lots of great conversations had. Hundreds of people attended the event which also involved fun activities, info sessions, music and more. With the dojo metres away, we didn’t have to go far!

A young man, an older woman and an older man all smile for they camera. They are wearing karate uniforms and caps. On the table in front of them are several flyers and some information about TSKF.
Ben, Heidi and Ken chatted to many interested students and staff.

March grading

In early March we welcomed Nemoto Sensei from Japan who conducted a seminar and grading. We had a good turn out with several coloured belt students advancing and two long-term students passing their Shodan grading – they got their black belt! We were lucky enough to have the BJJ class before us finish early so we could host Nemoto Sensei in the awesome UTAS UniGym Dojo. Thank you to Nemoto Sensei for making the trip and to  Legacy BJJ  for being so gracious.

A large group of karate students pose for the camera. They are inside a dojo. You can see the Japanese flag on the wall behind and some photos.

Nationals 2025

Sensei Adrian travelled solo to Perth for the TSKF Nationals in mid March. He reunited with our former Dojo head and founder, Sensei Stacey Kirmos, and saw friends old and new. Between the morning of a thousand punches and several days in a row of training, much was learned. The club has been enjoying some new drills and thankfully, only the usual amount of punches.

Five men, one Australian and four Japanese, wearing suits face the camera with pleasant looks. Four are not wearing shoes. They are on a basketball court.

The Nationals is a time where all clubs and visitors from Japan come together to train, compete, learn and socialise. While challenging, the week is very inspiring and rewarding.

The Nationals will be held in the Sunshine Coast in 2026 and we aim to send more karateka next year to join Sensei Adrian.
